John Mellencamp took a political swipe at President Donald Trump during a recent concert in Holmdel, New Jersey, according to Billboard.
While performing “Pink Houses” on Saturday, July 25, Mellencamp paused after singing a line that mentioned the Gulf of Mexico. He then joked to the audience that it was not the “Gulf of America,” adding, “What a stupid f–king idea.”
The singer returned to the song moments later as the crowd reacted with cheers. Billboard noted that the comment referenced Trump’s executive order last year directing federal agencies to use the name Gulf of America.
Mellencamp is currently on his Dancing Words Tour, which is scheduled to continue through the end of September. His next show was set for Wednesday, July 29, in Bristow, Virginia.
