Ashley Johnson is opening up about a frightening incident from her childhood on the set of Growing Pains, according to E! News. On a recent episode of her Weird Kids podcast, the actor said a man tried to take her while she was leaving filming with her mother in the 1990s.
Johnson said the cast worked in a setup that put them close to the studio audience as they moved to and from the set. She recalled that a man jumped out of line, grabbed her, and ran with her before security intervened.
As guards moved in to restrain him, Johnson said she did not fully understand what was happening at the time. She later learned police found that the man had a gun, and he ended up going to jail.
Johnson also said there had been a threatening letter sent to the show before the incident, saying the writer planned to come to set with a gun and kill some of the cast. She said the studio security team’s response prevented the situation from becoming even more dangerous.
